SitRep: The Battle in Nomaa - No Mas in Nomaa

I just came back from what I'm going to call "The Battle of Nomaa", or as it may become known in the annals of EVE Lore - "No Mas, in Nomaa".

Word trickled in tonight that one of Specialist Rijhad's freighter contacts was bumped way off grid in Nomaa.  Specialist Rijhad dropped everything and raced to the scene - approximately twenty jumps from our current location.  I was fleeted with him at the time and reshipped and headed off after him.

I caught him and passed him in my faster Astero frigate and got on scene first.  I found a stricken Obelisk surrounded by a few of the freighter pilot's friends.  Circling them ominously was the ravenous, blood thirsty crew of the Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT).  A Mach was the bumper for the TNT and various Catalysts were milling about in a somewhat disorganized fashion.  DScan revealed a Bowhead and seven Catalysts some distance away.

Within minutes the first red wave of Catalysts descended on the Obelisk.  Specialist Rijhad finally arrived in his Ishtar along with a Falcon colleague, uncloaked and readied for action.  As the Falcon laid down the jams, Rijhad and I took out about five each of the TNT's Cats.  The tough Obe survived the first wave.  TNT's pilots cried about our efforts in Local: "White Knight mofos".

At this point I called for assistance in the HSM channel and asked everyone to report in to Specialist Rijhad, who was commanding the activities in system.

Logi ships, frigates, ECM ships all began to trickle in.  A hodge-podge of ships in contrast to the bot-like consistency of the enemy fleet.

A second assault came.  Surely the Obe would pop this time.  Not so...the Falcon's jamming and the sea of drones being put up by our forces prevailed again.  When the scene cleared...friendly logi moved in and began repping the Obe's damage.

Finally the Obe managed to flee the scene, only to be recaught and reassaulted.  Again the Cats were beaten back.  Another escape attempt and another assault was snuffed out.  Finally, after an hour of repeated assault waves, the Obelisk docked in Nomaa and the fight was over.

I personally had eight kills for the engagement - a high for my career.

I looted well over 11 Cats today....but the haul was only worth ~3M.  This fact explains the massive failure of TNT's gank attempt.  Their ships were composed of the lowest level T1 modules.  As well, TNT's FC called a disorganized fight and his ships did not appear to be well organized.

Nevertheless, this fight will undoubtedly will be remembered as one of the defining battles that forged the HSM into an effective force in Hi-Sec.

Thanks for reading and allowing me to retrace the evening's events.

Take care

- Private Jock Yitch.

Why We Fight

The question comes up over and over, whenever a high sec criminal engages in conversation with a member of the militia, or the larger "anti-ganking" community.

"Why do you bother saving the miner ( or hauler)?  What do you get out of it?"

Too many assume and derogatorily scream in local - "km whore" - Implying the whole enterprise is to get a cameo  appearance on a CONCORD kill mail.

Given that mercy and altruism in EVE are rare commodities, viewed more as an unusual phenomena like a white space buffalo, it is understandable that the high sec criminal mind does not understand.

Their incomprehension is also understood given their gank ships primarily come free from Goon or other corporate services.

To many gankers, losing ships is free, no risk, and exploding others' ships is pure profit.

Which is why they show no empathy toward their victims.  They don't feel any financial loss for their own activities, and cannot grok the pain and suffering anyone else might feel in losing their own ships.

Only the corporate CEO or Goon logistics need worry about how to pay for the criminal activities in High Sec Space, and how to deliver the 100-batch of gankalysts to their ravenous high sec criminal members.

Militia members primarily come from the ranks of miners, haulers, mission-runners and industrialists who have worked hard and long for their ships and accomplishments.  Many ships they either built themselves, or worked hard to earn the ISK to purchase it, or excelled at one of our contests and won it.

The key difference between "us and them" is that we earned it, through an honest day's labor, the sweat of our own brow, the toil from our own hands.

We understand and empathize with the loss that others feel when they fall victim to high sec criminals.

We don't patrol space for profit.  We often don't know the pilots we save, but the feeling of accomplishment, of a job well done, is strong when the criminal flashes red, then green as his guns are neutralized by our EWAR, and he sits neutralized waiting for his self-determined fate at the hands of CONCORD, or is quickly dispossessed of his criminal ship, podded by our guns, and sent fleeing away.

Our motivations are to do good, to do the right thing, to save capsuleers from High Sec criminals... To be the Hero, as opposed to the Villain.

There are no hats in EVE, and neither are there capes.

But know that militia members do wear a badge, and wear it proudly.

High Sec Criminal Profiles: Siegfried Cohenberg

Siegfried Cohenberg - The Machariel Bumper, Freighter Loot Hauler, Orca Pilot and agent of Goonswarm Federation's MiniLuv.
Andrew Sin  - Suspect Baiter Alt
Sasha Cohenberg - CODE Ganker Alt
Emotion Sasen - Goon Ganker Alt

A relatively new criminal scam by Siegfried is the destruction of freighters - singlehandedly - by  Andrew Sin.

The Scam

Siegfried Cohenberg will bump the freighter.   Andrew Sin will show up in an Exequror, convo the freighter pilot, and ask to assist by dueling and webbing/repping the freighter to escape.
Andrew Sin will either then begin attacking with the PVP fitted  Exequror, or leave and return with a  Catalyst.

This has happened numerous times

Spread the word to all your Freighter associates.
This practice can only end if pilots are aware of this scam.

Do Not Accept Duels From Pilots You Do Not Know.

Also note, that freighters accepting duels prevents the safe repping by other pilots, as the Remote Rep pilot must go suspect to repair damage on freighters engaged in duels
