Looter ALOD: SpielMitMir

The Militia received intel that MeinHerzBrennt and IchWill were operating in Sirppala on the Urlen gate.

Like many of these situations, a choice has to be made; Either save the hauler by jamming the Vexors and garde drones, or let nature take its course, and catch the Looter, thus doing more harm to the criminal operation.

"They didn't want the Vexors anyway"

It's a tough judgment call and decision.

With the decision made, a Stratios, Onyx, Lachesis and Raptor waited for that special moment.

In the end, the fit was absolutely inexcusable.  But we'll do our penance, say our 7 Hail Bob's, and confess our sins to CONCORD.

I'm certain they'll understand.

Militia Boot Camp: Day Five - Rock Ninja

Private Newbro!  Do NOT stare at the Mining laser or you'll go BLIND!

Private! Today you will be cloaking up and heading into the asteroid belts. You will become one with the rocks. You will become one with the space dust.  You will become the space ghost that gives gankers nightmares and shrivels up their... guns.

Your instrument of Justice is the Caldari Falcon.

Suggested Fit:
[Falcon, Falcon HSM]
Signal Distortion Amplifier II
Signal Distortion Amplifier II
Damage Control II
Sensor Booster II
Magnetometric ECM II
Magnetometric ECM II
Magnetometric ECM II
Magnetometric ECM II
Magnetometric ECM II
50MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher
250mm Light 'Scout' Artillery I
Medium Particle Dispersion Augmentor II
Medium Targeting Systems Stabilizer II
Hobgoblin II x2

The goal is to find the systems where Catalyst criminals are hunting, and wait for them to land and strike.  Use the gankerlookout tool and use the filters to research the systems you will be patrolling.

Catalyst criminals - whether solo or in small teams - tend to use scouts or combat probes to find their victims.

For those that depend on a scout , you will need to learn the scout name.  While cloaked, you can follow the scout from system to system, belt to belt.  When the scout settles on a target, he will approach and sit on his victim, providing a warp in for the gankers.  At that point, you should be positioned within your own optimal range.

For those that use combat probes, you will need to become well versed in using DScan to find potential victims, by looking for potential targets in relation to where the 8 combat probes are located on short range DScan (1-5AU).  Once you have found a likely high-value target, position your ship within optimal range and wait.

When using DScan, use the highest settings to quick-check for potential targets.  If no miners on scan, warp to the next planet's asteroid belt and check again.  Once you find a potential target, narrow your DScan range to 30 degrees, and scan down which asteroid belt the miner is in.  Narrow further if the belts are close to one another.  There have been many times, when it has been a race to find the next victim.  And there have been a few times when the HSM has landed on grid just as the gankers were approaching.

Because of the nature of cloaking and space rocks, it is best if you prepare the system before hand, by creating bookmarks in each asteroid belt.  Place a bookmark some distance (10+km) below or above the default warp-in point. In this way, you will not be decloaked when you warp into the belt.

Keep an eye on Local, and frequently monitor DScan for incoming Catalysts.  Zoom out to provide a larger view of the grid, so you can see the flash of the incoming Reds.

Once you see the Reds enter the grid, drop your cloak, and begin targeting and locking the Catalysts. If they have a security status below -5, jam them immediately.  If they are -4.9 and above, you will have to wait.

If the gankers notice you, and warp harmlessly away, you have saved the Miner and prevented the gank.  Good Work!

If the gankers do not warp away and engage, then land those jams and neutralize the threat. The space janitors - CONCORD - will soon arrive to clean up the mess.

Congratulations Private, you have saved the hard earned ISK and work of a miner, and brought Justice to an often violent and cruel galaxy.  Celebrate your victory against High Sec Crime, and get ready for the next criminal.

Militia Boot Camp: Day Four - Gate Ninja

Private Newbro! I said CLOAK up, not TOKE up!

Private! Today you will be cloaking up and heading back to the gates.  And you will learn the ancient art of the Cloaked Gate Ninja as an Agent of Concord.

Your instrument of Justice is the Caldari Falcon.  You will skill into this ship, and become the saviour of High Sec haulers.  It is important that you train your cloaking skill to Level 5 to minimize your Sensor Calibration Delay.  You already need Level 4 for the Covert Ops Cloaking Device II, so you might as well go all the way.

Homework Study : Cloaking

Skill to Level 5:

Suggested Fit:
[Falcon, Falcon HSM]
Signal Distortion Amplifier II
Signal Distortion Amplifier II
Damage Control II
Sensor Booster II
Magnetometric ECM II
Magnetometric ECM II
Magnetometric ECM II
Magnetometric ECM II
Magnetometric ECM II
50MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher
250mm Light 'Scout' Artillery I
Medium Particle Dispersion Augmentor II
Medium Targeting Systems Stabilizer II
Hobgoblin II x2

The goal is to find the systems and gates that Vexor criminals are camping, and wait for them to land and strike.

Vexors will camp a gate, by sitting off grid a few thousand km away.  You will see them on your short range DScan (0.1 AU) - a persistent menacing presence to haulers - and you will know you are at the right place for the next gank. Most will be aligned and slowboating toward the gate.  A few will be sitting still.

Optional:  Scan them down and check the KR activation cost.  If it is cheap, consider bringing some good friends - a point, DPS and a baseball bat.  Because everyone loves a surprise party.

Preparation: Change your Overview by turning on the Drone -> Combat Drone setting so that the Garde drones will appear in the overview.  While cloaked, orbit the targeted gate below the optimal range of your jammers.

The Vexor pilot usually has a scout on another highly trafficked gate, scanning the cargo of haulers, looking for anything expensive and autopiloted that will be landing on the targeted gate,

Once the Vexor lands on your gate, you should wait and hold your cloak.  The Vexor normally does not fire until after his Garde drone are deployed.  Once those sentry drones are out, and there is a slowboating hauler on grid approaching the gate, decloak your Falcon.

Begin by targeting and locking the drones first.  Complete by locking the Vexor.  Again, your Jammers should be set to the F1-F5 keys.

Wait for the Vexor to shoot, then begin jamming the Vexor and the 3 Garde drones.

If you are fast enough, and your ECM strength is at sufficient strength (Lvl 5s), then the hauler should proceed to the gate and jump through - with a little bit less shield, armor and perhaps with a need to change his pants once he reaches his destination.

The Vexor pilot, on the other hand, should be hearing the overwhelming hum of your ECM waves, punctuated by the stuccato thumps of the gate guns penetrating his hull.

Congratulations Private, you have saved the hard earned ISK and work of a fellow capsuleer, and brought Justice to an often violent and cruel galaxy.  Celebrate your victory against High Sec Crime, and get ready for the next criminal.

Scam ALOD: Welped Orthrus

A Charon was bumped by  Edwin Niwde in Sivala.

The pilot, unfortunately, was convo'ed by NE RD who was in a Heron.   NE RD convinced the freighter pilot he would help web him to escape, if he only accepted a duel...

As you would expect, it was a trap.  NE RD cycled his web once, then left only to return in a ship that was less helpful.

But luckily,  Slania Auduin was also there to assist, in one of the few ways possible.

The Charon was saved, and docked up.  The HSM  was able to talk to the pilot and rep the armor back to full health, once the engagement timer completed.

Many, many thanks to Slania Auduin, a true hero of High Sec!

Looter ALOD: Occupational Hazards

The system of Uedama is one of the primary space lane choke points, and the primary hunting grounds for the Kusion criminal clan.

In the past, Daxter Alabel was the scout *and* looter.  But with the introduction of a curiously named scout - Milky Penguin, Daxter has embraced his inner 'carebear' and focuses more on looting and hauling.

Although Daxter has been freed up from the work of cargo scanning and scouting, this has not left him any less vulnerable to the heavy burdens of Justice.

Militia Boot Camp: Day Three - Long Arm of the Law

Private Newbro! Try to look unimportant; the enemy may be low on ammo.

Private Newbro,  today you will learn about catching criminals at the gates.  Big ones, little ones, ones with egos the size of planets, it doesn't matter.  If they're Red, they're Dead.

Today you will be jumping into a Gallente Keres and fitting a long point warp disruptor. Make sure to train up the recommended skills.

Suggested Fit:

[Keres, Keres HSM]
Signal Amplifier II
Damage Control II
Overdrive Injector System II
Sensor Booster II
Sensor Booster II
Sensor Booster II
Warp Disruptor II
1MN Afterburner II
Small Tractor Beam II
Salvager I
Small Inverted Signal Field Projector II
Small Particle Dispersion Projector I
Hornet EC-300 x2

This tactic is best when used as part of a team on Thrasher Patrol, or when just applying random Justice on high traffic gates either on the major trade lanes, or solo camping on the major routes out of low sec.

The goal is to catch, but never release.

CONCORD and the gate guns are your DPS of Justice.  All you need to do is fast point the unsuspecting criminals and enjoy the fireworks.

Like fishing, this requires patience, vigilance, a steady hand and a fast lock.

This tactic is also a very good way to help make freighter ganks fail.

Normally, the gank fleet is staged in a central system that is along or near the major space trade lanes. The criminal organizations like to stock all their gank assets in a few central locations.

In this strategy, you position your ship on gate side that is in the direction of the bumped freighter, or general direction of the system where the ganks are happening.  If the gank fleet is landing on your gate, to jump out of the system, then you're doing it wrong, Private!

Camp and orbit the gate well within the optimal range of your point.  When the local numbers spike and the criminal warnings flash and you see the fleet enter your system, lock and point the criminals, preferably in order of preference of the higher value ships such as Talos, Brutix, Stealth Bombers, leaving catalysts and thrashers as the least preferred catch.

Point and enjoy.

You've joined the Militia.  You'll visit strange and exotic systems.  You'll meet new and interesting clones - and then pod them.

If you are lucky, or know who it is, you'll point the gank fleet FC.  And then... oh my, what a time to be alive!

When the gank fleet is comprised of slow warping Talos and Brutix, and with you in a fast warping frigate, you can point, hold till popped, then warp to the next gate and camp the gate, waiting for the gank fleet to enter that system.

The Militia has experienced multiple catches on a single gank fleet by quick footed and fast warping members.

So Save the (freighter) Whales, and learn this fine art of catching criminals!

It should be noted, that catching and holding non-criminal suspects includes a high amount of risk.  It is ill-advised to point every yellow flashing thing, without a firm understanding of your own DPS capabilities as well as your fleet mates.
If you are going to be catching suspects as well, make sure your guns and fleet are prepared.

Militia Boot Camp: Day Two - Thrasher Patrol

Private Newbro! I told you NOT to Jump!

Your first mission: Thrasher Patrol

Private Newbro, now that you've begun training your core skills and have skilled into the Griffin, it's time to get on the grid.

When criminals are flying Thrashers, they are normally hitting pods and shuttles on the gates. This means you need to lock the thrasher very quickly, and jam their guns as fast as possible, as their intended victims tend not to survive a second volley, let alone a first volley.

You will need a frigate, with a fast lock speed, and 'Red' Ladar jammers
Suggested fits are:

[Griffin, T2 Griffin HSM]
Signal Distortion Amplifier II
Signal Distortion Amplifier II
Sensor Booster II
Sensor Booster II
Ladar ECM II
Ladar ECM II
1MN Afterburner II
Small Particle Dispersion Augmentor II
Small Targeting System Subcontroller I

[Kitsune, T2 Kitsune HSM]
Signal Distortion Amplifier II
Damage Control II
Sensor Booster II
Sensor Booster II
Ladar ECM II
Ladar ECM II
5MN Microwarpdrive II
Small Particle Dispersion Augmentor II
Small Targeting System Subcontroller I

Use the following website URL  https://gankerlookout.com/#thrasher to identify the most likely active and targeted system/gate. Go to that location and camp the gate.

With your afterburner (or microwarp drive) always running, and your sensor boosters always running, orbit that gate at 30-35km... and wait.  :)

Important: Set your safety to green.

While you are waiting, rearrange your modules so that the jammers are on the keyboard shortcuts for F1 and F2.  Overheat your jammers for increased strength and chance of success.

Monitor DScan frequently to look for incoming thrashers.

Remember, your tank is your speed and distance from the ganker!

Sort your Overview by Type, descending, so that Thrashers will appear toward the top of the overview. You could customize your overview to just show destroyers, if you wish, but that is not necessary.

The criminals, normally red, will appear on your overview, and flash across the screen toward the gate,  Highlight (click on) the thrasher with your mouse in the overview, and spam press the ctrl key ( or even the F1 key ) until the locking sequence begins.

Once the locking sequence begins, you can press F1 and F2, (using the fits above as an example). That should activate the two jammers as soon as the lock completes.

With practice, you should be able to jam the Thrasher before he shoots, either forcing him to escape by warping harmlessly away, or desperately burning toward the gate to jump, or he sits and is shot by the gate guns and Concord - when they finally arrive.  :)

If the criminal runs away, success! You prevented crime and saved someone's day!

If the criminal explodes, congratulations!  Justice has been served. Also, remember to loot the blue wreck!

If his victim explodes, don't worry, and never be discouraged.

This is EVE.
You will always have another chance to save a life, and be the hero.  :)

Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Militia Boot Camp - First Day

Private Newbro! Get Gud!

So Private Newbro, you've enlisted in the High Sec Militia.

Commander! What do?

Well, Private, after you drop and do push-ups until your spindly little arms knock this space station out of its orbit, sending it careening into the sun, killing us all...

The second thing to do is make sure your clone has gone through boot camp training, maximizing your core ship skills that will serve you well, no matter the ship you fly.

Core AG Ship Skill Training

Power Grid Management V: maximizes the power core.
CPU Management V: maximizes the CPU.
Capacitor Management V: maximizes the capacitor capacity.
Capacitor Systems Operation V: maximizes the capacitor recharge rate.
Energy Grid Upgrades V: reduces the CPU requirements of installing power modules.
Mechanics V: maximizes structure hitpoints.
Shield Management V: maximizes shield capacity.
Shield Operation V: maximizes the shield recharge rate.
Hull Upgrades V: maximizes armor hitpoints.
Repair Systems IV: ability to operate the best armor and hull repair modules.

A note about Repair Systems V: If you train to V, some of your cap stable ships may become non cap stable, because the armor repairers will run shorter cycles.

Training Manuals

After you have set your basic skill training in order, you will need to hit the books and begin your study.

Field Guide: The Basics of Anti-Ganking
Field Guide: The Basics of Electronic Counter Measures
Field Guide: ECM in-Depth
Field Guide: EWAR In-Depth

HSM Ships

The Griffin is a Caldari ship, and will be awarded once you reach your first earned rank.
You will need to begin training the required skills for this ship in the HSM Fleet Doctrine, so you can embark on your first mission.

Gank Gank Evolution

With the impending changes of adding a maximum time-to-warp of 3 minutes, high sec criminals are evolving and adapting, but not without the prerequisite tears, and the wailing and gnashing of teeth with criminals calling out into the night "CCPlease make crime easy again."

The HSM has noticed that the the low-sec alliance Goonswarm and the struggling remnants of CODEdot have adopted a more Russian style of ganking.

Unfortunately, Goons - true to their basic something-awful nature - cannot adopt the more amicable and respectful relationship between Russian criminals and Russian Anti-Gankers who treat each other more as opponents on the chess board.

Evolved Criminal Strategy
Astrahus citadels are built close to the highest trafficked gates, and the gank fleet sits tethered at the citadel.  The gank fleets comprise mostly of stealth bombers fitted with torpedoes.

Multiple Blackbirds camp the gate, waiting for their chosen victims, and are fitted with ship scanners, cargo scanners, and warp disrupters. Once the target enters system and is suicide scrammed by the blackbirds, the gank fleet then undocks and lands at the gate.

Location
A favorite system for this strategy is Isanamo.

Near the Isikano gate, within 22,000km sits an Astrahus citadel used for fleets ganking on that gate.

It is named Bakini Bottom and is owned by Emulation.

Near the Uemisaisen gate, within 32,000km sits an Astrahus citadel used for fleets ganking on that gate.

It is named Fort Luv and is also owned by Emulation.

Counter Strategy
As SB torpedoes do not have the weakness of short optimal ranges, counter-bumping has minimal effect.  Our experience is that Logi shield and armor repping provides the best chance for freighter survival.
It is advised that freighter pilots scout ahead in Isanamo, and avoid this system when these criminals are active.
