Hyperdunking
Hyperdunking was given a tentative space lawyer green light after much discussion.
So the question comes down to, what is to be done about it?
Hyperdunking exists because too many choose to be spectators in this 'contemptible struggle' for survival in New Eden.
The parable of the good Samaritan is largely lost on most people. The traveler - beaten, stripped, and left half dead - was your fellow countryman.
It was the foreigner - the Samaritan - that was the only one who stopped and helped the robbed and injured man.
In the centuries that have passed from ancient times until now, nothing has changed, and the question remains the same:
Who among you would dare to rise up, fight and make a difference, and assist your fellow capsuleer?
Hulkageddon, Burn Jita, Burn Uedama, Burn Hek. Burn Jita 2, 3...
Who will cheer the burning of New Eden, and who stands opposed?
The crime of hyperdunking is not new, although the technique is a variant, like any new virus.
But the solution remains the same - your own adaptation to lower your risk as a potential victim, and your own participation to intervene when you see it happening.
The road from Jerusalem to Jericho is a winding, meandering road that was known as the "Way of Blood" due to the frequency of attacks against travelers and merchants by criminals. And much like the High-Sec choke points of Uedama, Isanamo, Hek, Balle and Aufey, criminals lay in wait, to attack, kill and steal from the travelers and merchants of New Eden who are either going or returning to Jita, the major trade hubs or Null Sec.
And numerous fellow capsuleers ignore the situation. Many simply stop and stare, and move on, fearing more for their own interests. A few smirk out of apathy and lack of sympathy, succumbing to the cynicism and bitterness of clones grown in vats whose birth and death are no more than a turning of the page.
But all these pilots are unremarkable, forgotten and lost to the memory of time just as the Israelites who walked past their countryman who lay bloodied and dying on the side of the road.
It is the foreigner, the Samaritan, whose deeds are remembered centuries later.
As for the criminals who made it their living to "Burn" the road to Jerusalem, they lay in unmarked graves, their 'killboard' made meaningless, their stolen riches turned to dust.
The are no laws of physics nor laws of New Eden that need to be changed in order to deter and contain this crime, nor of any other.
It is 'you', who must change and act.
So the question comes down to, what is to be done about it?
"Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing."
- John Stuart Mill , Inaugural address, delivered to the University of St. Andrews Feb 1st 1867
"When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle."
- Edmund Burke, Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents (1770)
