Militia Boot Camp: Day Five - Rock Ninja

Private Newbro!  Do NOT stare at the Mining laser or you'll go BLIND!

Private! Today you will be cloaking up and heading into the asteroid belts. You will become one with the rocks. You will become one with the space dust.  You will become the space ghost that gives gankers nightmares and shrivels up their... guns.

Your instrument of Justice is the Caldari Falcon.

The goal is to find the systems where Catalyst criminals are hunting, and wait for them to land and strike.  Use the gankerlookout tool and use the filters to research the systems you will be patrolling.

Catalyst criminals - whether solo or in small teams - tend to use scouts or combat probes to find their victims.

For those that depend on a scout , you will need to learn the scout name.  While cloaked, you can follow the scout from system to system, belt to belt.  When the scout settles on a target, he will approach and sit on his victim, providing a warp in for the gankers.  At that point, you should be positioned within your own optimal range.

For those that use combat probes, you will need to become well versed in using DScan to find potential victims, by looking for potential targets in relation to where the 8 combat probes are located on short range DScan (1-5AU).  Once you have found a likely high-value target, position your ship within optimal range and wait.

When using DScan, use the highest settings to quick-check for potential targets.  If no miners on scan, warp to the next planet's asteroid belt and check again.  Once you find a potential target, narrow your DScan range to 30 degrees, and scan down which asteroid belt the miner is in.  Narrow further if the belts are close to one another.  There have been many times, when it has been a race to find the next victim.  And there have been a few times when the HSM has landed on grid just as the gankers were approaching.

Because of the nature of cloaking and space rocks, it is best if you prepare the system before hand, by creating bookmarks in each asteroid belt.  Place a bookmark some distance (10+km) below or above the default warp-in point. In this way, you will not be decloaked when you warp into the belt.

Keep an eye on Local, and frequently monitor DScan for incoming Catalysts.  Zoom out to provide a larger view of the grid, so you can see the flash of the incoming Reds.

Once you see the Reds enter the grid, drop your cloak, and begin targeting and locking the Catalysts. If they have a security status below -5, jam them immediately.  If they are -4.9 and above, you will have to wait.

If the gankers notice you, and warp harmlessly away, you have saved the Miner and prevented the gank.  Good Work!

If the gankers do not warp away and engage, then land those jams and neutralize the threat. The space janitors - CONCORD - will soon arrive to clean up the mess.

Congratulations Private, you have saved the hard earned ISK and work of a miner, and brought Justice to an often violent and cruel galaxy.  Celebrate your victory against High Sec Crime, and get ready for the next criminal.
